Custom Fabrication
Need a custom part? Can’t find a replacement? Need to have a critical part modified? We have a full machine shop on site and have over 20 years of experience crafting and modifying precision parts for electro-mechanical devices. Our specialty is Ampex, but we have custom-made hundreds of parts for all brands of tape machines.

Electronic Repairs
We specialize in exorcizing the electronic demons from your Ampex ATR-100 series and MM-1200 series machines. Usually, problems can be fixed by simply sending us a card or two, and we can save you the hassle of transporting an entire machine. Our technicians have access to the world's largest supply of Ampex component parts, so even the really hard to find bits and pieces are no problem.

Motor Rebuilding
Rebuild your noisy, rattling, whining, clunking motors and listen to your machine purr! Tired old motors not only sound bad, but can also severely affect tape stability, speed accuracy, wow and flutter.
ATR Services has a full machine shop on site and over twenty years of experience rebuilding motors for Ampex ATR-100 series, MM-Series and ATR-124 transports. We also have a large stable of test machines and testing equipment to ensure that your rebuilt motor not only adheres to exacting performance specs, but functions perfectly in a real live machine.
All rebuilt motors are supplied with aircraft grade class 5 and 7 bearings, filled on site with the appropriate lubricant and noise tested before they go near your motor. Rotors are resurfaced using a Hardinge lathe set up using dynamic True Indicator Run-out for accuracy within .0002". All brushes are completely restored. Performance proofs are provided when applicable.

Head Lapping and Evaluation
ATR offers a full range of lapping, polishing and reconditioning services for Ampex ATR-100 series and MM-1200 heads. While we can do head laps for other brands, we focus on these heads because we can do a "real-world" machine test before and after headwork is performed. We will evaluate your heads using our optical comparator at up to 50x, microscope to 100x, inductance bridge and digital testing equipment to accurately gauge remaining life and contour.
Scrape Flutter Idler Service
Send us your whiny scrape flutter idler and we will send back a clean, mean, flutter-killing machine. We strip your SFI down, send critical parts through three stages of ultrasonic cleaning, polish it until it shines, lubricate the jewel bearings and set up your fixture to within .0001" of spec on our optical comparator. Capstan Glass Centering
Broken or detached capstan glass? Want to improve the flutter accuracy of your current capstan? Perfect alignment of your capstan tachometer glass is crucial to proper operation of your Ampex ATR-100 series machine. Painting
ATR Services has pain-stakingly matched all exact Ampex factory colors, spray techniques and silk-screening to offer a spot-on restoration of your Ampex ATR-100 series machine. The result is a perfect paint job that looks absolutely amazing and will hold up to the rather unkind treatment recording equipment tends to receive. We offer paint services in package prices for entire machines, as well as individual pieces, with or without ATR Services logos and silk screening. If your tastes differ from those of the original Ampex designers, or you just want to stand out from the crowd, we offer a full range of alternate color selections as well.
