The HDV-2 is a tube-based reproduce amplifier designed to provide a transparent and musical sound stage to the audio path of any ATR-100 series machine. Using the highest quality transformerless dual triode tape head pre-amp coupled to a solid-state final gain stage, the HDV-2 provides accurate musical depth, presence and a focused midrange that compliments many different musical styles.

The HDV-2 plugs directly into the ATR-100 series motherboard cage and is transparent to the operation of the recorder. Its channel outputs can be accessed directly at low line level or used to feed the machine's Input / Output Assemblies.

When used with our Transformerless I/O modules the sound stage and bandwidth are exceptional.

HDV-2 systems operate at 15 ips NAB / CCIR and 30 ips AES Equalization. Systems are supplied in either 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch tape format versions, featuring custom Flux Magnetics™ Mastering Series metal heads.

There are three important design innovations that make the HDV-2 a powerful production tool.

• The HDV-2 was designed to be a musically accurate amplifier without specifically determining what technology should be used. The transformerless tube front end was chosen after extensive listening tests to different front end designs, not just because tubes are "in".

• The HDV-2 allows direct comparison with the original Ampex electronics by providing a front panel mounted selector switch. This bold feature insures that the user has a definitive reference point in choosing the most suitable electronics for a particular project or song.

• The HDV-2 has front panel control over high frequency head damping. The engineer can use the high frequency head damping control in conjunction with the high frequency equalizer to create slight broadband variations in the mid and high frequency response curves.
